OUR TEAM

Rich and Rhine’s greatest resource is our dedicated team of employees based out of our Portland, Oregon headquarters. This loyal group continues to grow and is the vital link between our suppliers and our store owners and operators throughout the Northwest.

Ron Squires, President

Ron began working in the industry in 1983 as a sales rep for a competitor in SW Washington before joining the Rich and Rhine team four years later. Within his first year with the company, sales doubled in volume, largely due to his tenacious pursuit of customer-focused and value-added service for his clients.

After four years of sales leadership, Ron was promoted to Sales Manager in 1990, a position he held for nearly 25 years. When our former President retired in 2015, we knew that there was no better alternative than asking Ron to lead the Rich and Rhine team into the next generation of success.

Ron was present when the company first made the transition from hand-written to scanned orders over 30 years ago, in addition to being the catalyst behind the implementation of our current cutting-edge software system introduced in 2016. The consummate team player, Ron still maintains some key account relationships, and when urgent matters arise, you might even see him delivering your order — the ultimate expression of dependability and integrity — two of our critical core values.

Away from the office, Ron enjoys escapes to Central Oregon for some biking and hiking with his wife and two children, working around the house, and playing racquetball as much as possible.

Karen Seibel, Controller

Karen started working in the grocery industry in the 1980s, taking on varied responsibilities that included cashier, meat wrapper, tobacco buyer, and bookkeeper. This experience led her to an accounting role at United Grocers in the late-80s, which evolved into a similar role at Rich and Rhine when United Grocers bought the business in 1995.

Karen’s diverse grocery experience, combined with her 23+ years managing the financials of Rich and Rhine have her uniquely positioned to understand and support so many aspects of our business as we continue to grow.

When not working, Karen loves to travel; both to the beach or to her new vacation home in Central Oregon, where she makes a point to get in some great hiking. She loves her granddogs, but is particularly excited about her soon-to-arrive first grandchild.

Greg Schwerdt, Operations Manager

Greg Schwerdt has nearly 30 years of experience in grocery distribution management, including 20 years of overseeing the warehouse and last-mile logistics at Rich and Rhine. Greg operates in a state of “kaizen”, or continuous improvement, as he constantly tweaks the warehouse operations, route planning, and delivery fleet to ensure we can meet the demands of our customers in regards to consistent, accurate, and on-time deliveries.

Accuracy and quality of service are paramount to Greg and he prides himself on helping his team members develop their own sense of ownership as they grow their careers under his tutelage. He has taught forklift training for over 20 years and enjoys volunteer work to provide training for underprivileged adults and those entering the work force from incarceration.

Outside of Rich and Rhine, Greg enjoys spending time with his wife, daughters, and grandson. This includes getting away for camping excursions in the great Northwest, which allows their canine child to join in the fun as well.

Greg Bliss, Sales Manager

Greg Bliss joined the Rich and Rhine team in 2000 as a Territory Sales Representative and worked his way up the ranks with a promotion to lead the sales team in late-2015. Prior to joining our team, Greg managed a C-store in The Dalles, Oregon, giving him critical insight from the “other side of the counter”.  With a broad understanding of what moves the needle in our core distribution channel, Greg is able to coach our team to provide unparalleled service and support to our clients. In addition to managing the sales team, Greg also manages a number of our key vendor relationships.

Outside of work, Greg is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys hunting, fishing, and spending quality time “off the grid” with his wife and daughter.
